Internet Information Services (IIS)

Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) creates logs in W3C format.

http Logs Viewer can be used to load, read, parse and analyse W3C log files, just like any other log file, thus http Logs Viewer is your ideal companion to analyze IIS log files easily.

To analyse such a log file simply drag or add the access log file to Apache Logs Viewer. Mocrosoft IIS typically creates a log file per day or per month as configured. Should you wish you can also append different log files to the same view. This enables you to analyse days as a whole set.

W3C IIS Log Format

The W3C log format can be found here. A typical W3C log file header contains the following fields:

#Software: Microsoft Internet Information Services 8.5
#Version: 1.0
#Date: 2014-03-17 10:10:25
#Fields: date time s-ip cs-method cs-uri-stem cs-uri-query s-port cs-username c-ip cs(User-Agent) cs(Referer) sc-status sc-substatus sc-win32-status time-taken

http Logs Viewer parses the W3C log and displays it just like it would display any other log. You can specify the fields that should be visible and it is suggested to configure and have all the basic fields for better analysis like User-Agent, Referrer, Method, URI and Query, apart from the date, time and IP address.

http Logs Viewer also supports IIS6 log formats, since this older version had a different format of storing logs.

All reports that are available can be used and enable you to analyze the log information stored by Microsoft Internet Information Services. Reports and visit charts help you understand what is inside the logs and your visitor’s behavior. This enables you to fix issues,, improve your rankings and achieve more with your website.
